An art gallery above the lake
Lake Maggiore is one of the lakes in the Alps southern edge and it is embedded in the foothills of the ancient mountains range. In order to enlarge Casa Andrea Cristoforo, its foundations were built on a granite rock, which is still visible at one end of the building. This means that Casa directly leans against the rock!
A special path
Away from the road, a barely visible path climbs from the lake, whose level is just 193 metres above sea level, up to Casa Andrea Cristoforo. It continues hiking trail that leads to Pizzo Leone (1653 metres above sea level). One of the most external points of this spur has become famous as Monte Verità. You feel like in an art gallery above the lake, as you can walk towards Ronco and Brissago, while still remaining at a constant elevation. You can also get to the two islands of Brissago from Ascona by boat, known for their subtropical botanical gardens. Not far from Casa, signposts show various hiking possibility.
Ascona and surroundings
Ascona is the Swiss town at the nearest level to the sea, widely known for its old town, the Mediterranean lakeside promenade with its street cafés and the mild climate. The region offers the possibility to make numerous excursions, for example, to Centovalli, the “Hundred Valleys” with a rough alpine backdrop as a contrast to the Mediterranean landscape, or to Teatro Dimitri in Verscio.
